Naturalistic Planting
_

The wider landscape beyond this garden is mainly beautiful woodland, so the two large borders in this Piet Oudolf inspired design perfectly leant themselves to the relaxed use of perennials in a naturalistic planting scheme. The button-like flowers of Allium sphaerocephalam and Sanguisorba 'Arnhem' hover over grassy stems while perennials such as Stachys officinalis 'Hummello', Veronicastrum 'Fascination', Echinacea purpurea and Nepeta 'Kitkat' provide successional colour. Naturalistic planting looks to nature for inspiration and this is reflected in my design where plants are massed together to form cushions of colour and texture, intermingling and blending without overcrowding one another.  The garden is particularly beautiful in the autumn when drifts of grasses are backlit by the sun.
